A New Collective
It’s creeping ever so closely to the end of the year, inevitably a time of reflection. For the past 18 months when I’ve not been lecturing, marking, or organising committee meetings, I’ve been sharing my experiences as a teacher in one of the most tumultuous times in recent memory. I’ve learnt many lessons the hard way, and while this is all a lot of work on top of my day job, I believe my experiences in Science, Technology, and Education have value for others.
I’m always looking for new ways to connect with others, so here it is - “Crossover Connections” - my new weekly newsletter on Substack.
Why a Newsletter?
While I’ve published my work across different online platforms, none of these outlets have established a coherent sense of community. This website is the closest thing to it, but it’s not setup with the right tools to connect people in the right ways. Crossover Connections is my attempt at curating all of my interests and inspirations in one place, inviting like-minded people across different sectors to join the conversation.
What are “Crossover Connections”?
As part of my day job I’ve offered career and academic counselling to tens of thousands of students. What I’ve realized is that everyone is silo’ed and isolated in one way or another. The more I’ve talked to scientists, teachers, and entrepreneurs though, the more I realized how much everything is actually connected.
It’s the individuals who can see and predict these Crossover Connections in different fields that stay ahead of the curve and consistently find success. I want to make these connections visible to as many people as possible.
When will new posts come out?
The newsletter will be sent directly to your inbox once a week, at the start of each week. A curated list of articles, resources, and inspirations on the big questions facing us all as educators in Science and Technology. Science and Technology is evolving so quickly that education is struggling to keep up - there’s a lot to talk about in this space.
Is this the end of the blog?
Not at all! The blog will continue, along with videos, and even a new podcast (!) in 2023.
Like the rest of my online musings, the newsletter is free to subscribe and stay up to date with everything. Here’s to building stronger communities heading into the new year!
Jack.
