Zf vs ZR: A Day In the Life for Travel

For travel I thought the Zf and ZR are interchangeable.  So why, on my last trip did I use one so much more?  It was a work trip, and though I’m not a pro photographer cameras are essential for my day job.  I have 6 travel use cases that are specific to my work and a little odd?   Did the Zf or ZR meet my needs better? Let me show you over a jam-packed 24 hours. A day in the life traveling for work in Taiwan.

Nikon ZR + 28mm: 10,000 Travel Photos Later.

The Nikon ZR’s screen, shape, and speed kept me going. 10,000 travel photos later I think 28 mm matches this camera perfectly?  So much so on last my Japan trip I brought 2 - but how did the same focal length produce such different photos?  28mm is unpredictable, just like the ZR. Nikon ZR: The Full Frame GR?

For the past month I’ve been trying to make the ZR my GR. 28 and 40mil lenses like the GRIII, IIIX, plus a promist filter like the HDF - I even went to a GR gallery to check.  Despite its overspec’ed internals, the ZR - like the GR - forces you to keep it simple, it even has “snap focus” - sort of?

Nikon’s Best Value Camera?

The Nikon ZR might be great value, I’d still pick the Zf or Z5ii?  Photo-first cameras are more versatile for most, and though the ZR beats these two in video, it probably won’t work for photo.  How do I know?  I own the Sony FX3 - the ZR’s biggest rival, and though it can take amazing photos, Sony made 7 photography compromises. Did Nikon do the same? If the ZR is usable for photo is it now the best value?
